Delos is one of the most important mythological, historical and archaeological sites in Greece. The excavations in the island are among the most extensive in the Mediterranean. Delos is a minuscule island stretching only 5 km north to south and a scant 1.3 km from east to west. It was here, that Apollo, son of Zeus was born.  Delos had considerable influence on the development of architecture and monumental arts during the Greco-Roman period; this influence was matched later by the important role it has played since the 15th century in furthering our knowledge of ancient Greek art from a widely renowned site. There are daily boat excursions from Mykonos except Monday, because the archaeological site is closed that day.

Night life in Mykonos is very exciting and is one of the reasons of the huge tourism of the island. Once you arrive in Mykonos you will realize that the day has just as many party options as the night. The whole capital, where most of the bars and clubs are located, gets crowded with people of all ages, of all sexual tendencies and of all musical preferences, all ready to party and have fun all night long. Many beach parties are organized on the most famous and popular beaches of the island throughout the day. When the government made Chora an architectural landmark, they prohibited motorized traffic on its streets. Only a few small delivery vehicles are allowed. The only way to get around town is to walk. Many of the town's large hotels are found on the busy peripheral road. However, much of the rest of the island is served by a good transportation system.

During the high season, the K.T.E.L buses (tel: 22890 23360) have regular, frequently – scheduled, routes to and from the countryside (Ano Mera etc.) and the majority of the islands’ beaches. Departures, depending on the destination are from the two bus terminals on the north (Museum) and south side (Fabrika) of town.

A wonderful means for visiting the beaches on the southern shore of the island are the “CAIQUES” small boats that, departing from Platy-Yialos and Ornos, make regularly scheduled round trips as far as Elia beach, to the east.

Also you may visit by caiques the nearby historical island of Delos. The trip lasts about 25 minutes.

From Mykonos you can reach by boat the nearby islands Tinos, Paros, Andros, Naxos and also Santorini and Crete.
